What’s it like working at 6rs?

At sixredsquares, we've always been big advocates of supporting education and giving students an insight in to the industry. Over the years we've welcomed work experience placements from local schools, colleges and universities. So we thought we'd give our latest placement an opportunity to share her experience of working with the 6rs team.

Eira Ovel joined us for 2 weeks of work experience from Greensward Academy in Hockley, Essex. With an interest in media and production, she was keen to learn more about life inside a design agency and what kind of projects are worked on.

“It was a lovely atmosphere to work in and felt very relaxed. The team work together seamlessly and are always helping each other. There are different departments, like design and development, that have to work on the same projects at different stages, so they are always collaborating and sharing ideas. Working here gave me a better idea of the workplace in general. It’s not all about sitting at desks all day! I enjoyed getting to know the crew and how they flow together and how if you can get a small team that works well together then anything is possible.”

During her 2 week placement, Eira joined members of the team in client meetings and attended a photoshoot for our She Leads campaign with Paul Robinson Solicitors. She also sat in on a strategic website workshop with one of our charity client, Brook. The intention was to give her a practical insight into the industry and not just waste the opportunity doing inane tasks that she wouldn’t get value from. Meeting interesting people, and in particular, the many women in leadership that we’re fortunate to work with, brought her closer to some excellent role models.

One thing I really appreciated was being given the opportunity to be a part of real jobs right away. They trust you with important tasks and value your input, while always supporting you and giving guidance. I really enjoyed going up to London and seeing how the team works with clients and the relationships they’ve created with them. It was really inspiring to see lots of women in management roles and running businesses too. Back at the studio, they taught me how to use some of the technology and software that they use on a day to day basis. I learnt how to put logo designs together in Adobe Illustrator and how all branding projects start with market research and getting to know the client’s business in depth so the team understands them and their customers. I thought it was interesting that all of the designers would sketch ideas out before using the computer.”

My experience at 6rs was fantastic. If you need somewhere to do work experience where you'll have fun, learn new things and be part of an incredible team, then this is the place for you!” — Eira Ovel

When we asked Eira for some of her key takeaways from her placement, this is what she had to say:

♥️ Business is all about people and creating positive relationships.

🙌 The best client relationships seem to be the ones with lots of mutual respect.

📄 A good quality brief results in a better outcome.

👃 Some people wear way too much perfume/aftershave in meetings.

🎶 We don’t play enough Sam Fender in the studio!

We love inspiring the next generation of creatives and showing them the ropes. So if you’re looking for a work experience placement then get in touch
