When it comes to supporting charities, we like to think that it's not just branding, websites and marketing that we're good at. The 6rs team has never been afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. And that's just what we did for local Southend charity Age Concern.
Age Concern Southend is a small, independent charity based in Southend. They provide support, advice and services to older people in the Southend area and surrounding communities. Based in the Haven Community Hub in Westcliff, they offer a huge range of activities and services, including their befriending service, wheelchair hire and dementia day centre. There’s also a charity shop and café, as well as a packed calendar of classes and events for people of all ages. Earlier this year, they were successful in raising enough funds to buy the Grade II listed building that they operate from.
They have a small team that’s making a big difference to the local community. So when they approached us to see how we might be able to support them, we were happy to help.

We’ve been working with the Age Concern team to help them with their messaging and marketing, but we wanted to do something practical, so we suggested a day of volunteering. And it turned out that they needed some help clearing out an old loft space to make room for some new storage. So the 6rs team headed to the Hub and were soon on the roof, wading through several decades of clutter, and a fair few spider webs! We found no less than 16 fake Christmas trees and some lovely old signage, which harked back to the building’s previous life as a department store. It was packed to the rafters with all sorts, but it wasn’t long before we had it clear and began sorting through it all with the Age Concern team.
The result was an organised storage space that will take the strain from other areas in the building, helping the day-to-day operation of the charity.
We were blown away by the generosity of sixredsquares. The team volunteered with enthusiasm, efficiency, and a real sense of community spirit. We’re incredibly grateful, and would welcome them back any time!” — Samantha Crump, Events & Fundraising Manager, Age Concern Southend
At sixredsquares, we believe that your time is one of the most valuable things you can give. We’re passionate about supporting good causes and that’s why we regularly volunteer with charities and organisations that are helping the communities we live in. Volunteering with lovely teams like Age Concern gives us an opportunity to give something back, and spend some valuable time together, away from the screen. For us, it’s not just about using our design skills to support, but physically lending a hand. We want to see first-hand the challenges that are facing charities and help them overcome them, whether that’s through our marketing and design services, or a bit of old fashioned graft. It creates a feel-good factor in the team, knowing that we’re delivering on our mission of being a force for positive change.
Head on over to the Age Concern Southend on Sea website and find out more about their fantastic work. Keep your eyes peeled for more to come from our collaboration with the charity soon.
